The Swedenborg Chapel is a ministry of the Swedenborgian Church of North America. Our denomination began in London, England in 1787 and is based upon the Bible as interpreted in the writings of the renowned eighteenth century scientist, philosopher, and mystic Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772).
In his mystical visions, Swedenborg perceived uniquely that the Bible should be read with a deeper degree of insights in relation to our personal spiritual growth. Swedenborg insisted that instant salvation is not possible because salvation is a life long process of our individual spiritual journey in the guidance of the divine guidance. Also, Swedenborg uniquely declares that the Lord’s Second Coming is of spiritual origin, thus it is in its process right now.
What Swedenborg hoped was to share a deeper and personal way of spiritual growth that is to be truly Christian whose faith is genuinely in the teachings of Jesus Christ. According to Swedenborg, a true Christian is the one who believes in the Incarnation of Christ, and thus do one's best to live by the Commandments Christ. Our denomination was also instrumental in bringing about the first Parliament of World Religions held in Chicago in 1894 and the second one in 1994 .
Our congregation in Cleveland area, founded in 1841 continues to be devoted to offering our unique understanding of the Bible as a guide for spiritual growth that is the regeneration. We offer specific guidance and support for a fulfilling spiritual life, which services God and the community. We believe that the essence of the Christian faith is to apply the wisdom of the Bible into living a useful and loving life. |
